I am proud to say that, as of two weeks ago, I am no longer unemployed. I have found a great job with an excellent small business in my industry. I was very fortunate in that I had an avenue to earn extra money by teaching college classes and consulting in the aerospace-defense industry which is where I had been making my living. That being said, I still experienced a sharp decline in income with no real idea as to where my next opportunity was coming from. I was just sure that it would come. I told my wife that 2016 was going to be a banner year for us and even unemployment did not change that belief.

  1. Make everyday a work day. I was up early every day, even on weekends, and worked on something that day.
  2. Make something positive happen each day. Whether it was talking to someone about consulting, applying for jobs, networking, or researching companies or opportunities, I tried to make something positive happen everyday.
  3. Network. I went to meetings in my industry, I senCS002892t emails to everyone that I could think of, and took every contact seriously. The job I ended up with was not even posted, but was the result of networking and conversations that I had with the company on two separate occasions.
  4. Value support. I had a lot of people thinking of me, praying for me, and giving me words of encouragement. I owe them and God a lot.
