I am proud to say that, as of two weeks ago, I am no longer unemployed. I have found a great job with an excellent small business in my industry. I was very fortunate in that I had an avenue to earn extra money by teaching college classes and consulting in the aerospace-defense industry which is where I had been making my living. That being said, I still experienced a sharp decline in income with no real idea as to where my next opportunity was coming from. I was just sure that it would come. I told my wife that 2016 was going to be a banner year for us and even unemployment did not change that belief.
WHAT DID I LEARN?
- Make everyday a work day. I was up early every day, even on weekends, and worked on something that day.
- Make something positive happen each day. Whether it was talking to someone about consulting, applying for jobs, networking, or researching companies or opportunities, I tried to make something positive happen everyday.
- Network. I went to meetings in my industry, I sent emails to everyone that I could think of, and took every contact seriously. The job I ended up with was not even posted, but was the result of networking and conversations that I had with the company on two separate occasions.
- Value support. I had a lot of people thinking of me, praying for me, and giving me words of encouragement. I owe them and God a lot.
